Why Pray? Part 2
Why do we pray? Have you ever asked yourself that question? Have you ever wondered why people talk to God?
One of the truths that we learn from the Bible is that there is something wrong with mankind. You and I see it every day. The world is a messed up place and there are all sorts of scary and freaky things happening all around us. It’s not supposed to be like that.
There’s a reason for it, though. In the book of Isaiah, we learn that the God who made us - who wants to have a close personal relationship with us - has distanced Himself from us because of our sin. This separation has had devastating consequences. Isaiah tells us:
Isaiah 59:2
“But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.”
So, if the problem is that we are distanced from God the solution would be for us to get close to Him again, right? But, how? How can we get close to God again? Here is what the writer of Psalms tells us:
Psalms 145:18
“The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth.”
Prayer is the answer! When we pray to God, we bridge the gap between ourselves and Him. The book of James puts it like this:
James 4:8a
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.“
So, why do we pray? Because it brings us closer to God. What a treasure! In a world that has lost its way and where we struggle every day to find some good, isn’t it nice to know that God is just a few words away? Open your heart to Him in prayer and experience the blessing of His presence.
Zechariah 1:3
“Return to Me,” declares the Lord of hosts, “that I may return to you.”
