What Does Jesus Want From Me?

He is, “The First And The Last”

Revelation 1:17

“Do not be afraid, “I Am The First And The Last”.

When we consider the names by which Jesus identifies Himself, He is telling us something about who He is. The First And The Last is a statement about His eternal nature. He was there before anything existed and He will be there after everything is gone. The writer of Colossians puts it this way:

Colossians 1:16-18

“For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.“

Let’s think about that for a minute. He is the Creator. When we say that, we are saying that there is no distinction between Jesus and God. Nit only did He make everything but everything exists FOR HIM. Colossians goes on to say:

Colossians 2:9

“For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form.”

The First And The Last can only be God Himself. Something has to exist before anything else can come into existence. That’s Jesus. The Gospel of John says this about Him:

John 1:1-3

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.”

You cannot read all those verses and still deny that Jesus was the Creator of all things. So how do we respond to that? Hebrews 1 doubles down on all those verses and follows that up by saying this:

Hebrews 2:1

“For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away from it.”

We cannot ignore Him or pretend that our very soul does not cry out for us to reconcile ourselves to Him.j
