The Names Of Jesus - “The Righteous One”

Acts 7:52

“…the prophets … had previously announced the coming of The Righteous One…”.

The word righteous is pretty common in the Bible. In fact, you could make the argument that righteousness is its main theme. It’s all about how to get right with a righteous God while we are not righteous at all.

The problem is that we need to be reconciled with our Creator. How can sinful and unrighteous people be reconciled to a righteous God who demands holiness and perfection? Romans 3:23 tells us that we all fall short of God‘s glory.

It sounds like getting right with God is a hopeless task. Sadly, that is the truth. The fact is, there is no hope of you or I ever becoming righteous. So how can we ever be reconciled with God? The answer lies in The Righteous One.

Jesus Christ alone is righteous on this earth. When He came to earth, His mission was to draw us closer to God. He taught, healed, prayed, led and preached. But the truly amazing thing is that He also ate, slept, walked, lived, loved and breathed with us. He was born, became flesh and blood and then died just like every single one of us. Yet, something was different. He never sinned.

That means something. There is a reason that is important. The book of Hebrews explains:

Hebrews 4:14-16

“For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace...”

What does that mean? It means that by being sinless, The Righteous One has led you and me straight to the throne room of God where His righteousness allows us to come before God’s throne “with confidence.”

The Righteous One became righteousness for us and His grace and mercy make us acceptable to God. That’s what reconciliation is all about. You have been made clean and pure by His works, not by yours.

Hebrews 7:19

“…there is a bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.”

That’s worth a “Hallelujah”, isn’t it?
