The Names Of Jesus - “The Truth”
John 14:6
“I am The Way, and The Truth, and The Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”
An interesting thing happens in the New Testament. In the first three Gospels - Matthew, Mark and Luke - truth is barely mentioned at all. The 68 chapters of the NT just take it for granted that God is true. But then comes the Gospel of John.
John’s book is different. He wants the reader to understand who Jesus really is. To John, Truth is everything. He mentions truth 42 times in his 21 chapters!
He tells us that:
Grace and truth are realized in Christ (1:16).
The followers of God practice truth (3:22).
They worship in truth (4:23).
They stand in the truth (8:54).
The truth makes them free. (8:32).
The truth sanctifies (17:18).
But, the real kicker is in 14:6 where we are told that Truth is a name of Jesus. To John, Jesus is not just true, He IS Truth. Notice the difference. Truth isn’t something He does, it is something that He is. That is a startling statement. We expect Jesus to say true things and to be truthful but that’s not what He is saying. He claims to actually be Truth.
The consequence of that is astounding. It means that He is not true because He does true things but that things are true because He does them.
Do you see the implications for you in your daily living? Because Jesus is Truth, He is utterly trustworthy. That’s what makes all the difference. He is worthy of our love and praise.
John 18:37
“For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”
