The Names Of Jesus - “Author” Part 1

The Names Of Jesus - “Author” Part 1
Hebrews 12:2
“…fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross...”
What is an author? We know that authors write and compose but an author is also a creator. An author creates an idea, initiates it, implements it and then completes it. An author makes all that happen.
Let’s look at how that changes the way we see Jesus. In Acts 3:15, Peter, talking to the crowd about Jesus, called Him “The Prince of Life.” That word, Prince, reveals something really important. It’s the same word that Hebrews uses in calling Jesus The Author. In fact, Hebrews doubles down and does that again in chapter 2 where it calls Him “The Author of Salvation.”
Let’s take stock in that. What does it tell us about Jesus that He is the author of life, faith and salvation?
There was a point in time when there was God and nothing else. God decided to make that which was not God. God chose to create free-willed beings that would exist to bring glory to Himself.
How would these beings bring glory to Him? They would be worshippers. You and I were created for that purpose. But, worship is impossible where there is no free will. A worshipper MUST be able to choose to NOT worship. That’s the whole point of worship. If there is no choice, you are not worshipping, you are just a robot performing a programmed task. A worshipper must have the option of refusing to worship and that means opposing God’s will. That is rebellion.
Are you with me, so far? If you are, you are starting to realize what that means. Jesus knew that mankind would rebel when He created it. We will come back tomorrow and take a deep look at what that means.
