The Names Of Jesus - “Author” Part 2

Hebrews 12:2

“…fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith...”

Are you beginning to realize what it means when we say that God knew His creation would have free will? It means that God fully understood the impact of a free creation. He knew that His creation would rebel and sin would enter into it.

Now, here is the really startling part: Jesus is clearly portrayed by the Bible as the Agent of Creation. (John 1:1-14; Colossians 1:15-21; Hebrews 1:1-3). If we look at the previously quoted verses that mention Jesus as the Author of life, faith and salvation, we will realize that they all have as their context the suffering of Jesus. Take a look:

Hebrews 12:2

“…the Author And Perfecter Of Faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame…”

Acts 3:14-15

“But you disowned the Holy and Righteous One and … put to death the Prince of Life.”

Hebrews 2:9-10

“…Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels … because of the suffering of death … so that by the grace of God He might taste death … to perfect the Author Of Their Salvation through sufferings.”

In Job 38, God poses many questions to Job during his own moment of rebellion against God’s will. Two of those questions profoundly impact this idea of Jesus as the Author.

Job 38:4 & 17

“Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?

“Have the gates of death been revealed to you?”

Let me connect the dots first you. Jesus knew from the very beginning how things would end. He who designed and created everything, wrote the ending Himself. He knew that His creation would require His own suffering and death on the cross.

Let that sink in for a minute. The Author of Salvation wrote His own death into His story. He wrote it, initiated it, implemented it and completed it. And just like that, we were brought into being in such a way that allows us the freedom to bring pain and suffering to our own Creator, and that pain and suffering would bring about our own salvation.

Nothing ever written has ever been more powerful than the fact that Jesus authored the story of salvation.
