The Lord’s Prayer - "Forever"
As we bring to an end our journey through The Lord's Prayer, we come to a final thought: that we should remember that God's Kingdom, His power and His glory are forever.
What does the word "Forever" say about who we are and who we are praying to? It says that God and His Kingdom are eternal. Eternity is not an easy thing for us to grasp.
W. B. Hinson, a pastor who preached in the early 20th Century, spoke the following words before he died from his illness.
“I remember a year ago when a doctor told me, ‘You have an illness from which you won’t recover.’ I walked out to where I live 5 miles from Portland, Oregon, and I looked across at that mountain that I love. I looked at the river in which I rejoice, and I looked at the stately trees that are always God’s own poetry to my soul. Then in the evening I looked up into the great sky where God was lighting His lamps, and I said, 'I may not see you many more times, but Mountain, I shall be alive when you are gone; and River, I shall be alive when you cease running toward the sea; and Stars, I shall be alive when you have fallen!’”
He understood the concept of forever. Jesus said, in Matthew 24:35, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away". That means that God, His Word and His Kingdom will never end.
That is the same God Who offers us a place at His everlasting table. God has provided an eternal home for us in His Kingdom. Yet, there are some who will never take Him up on that offer. Why? Why would someone refuse that? What keeps us from joining in?
More pointedly, what keeps YOU from being a part of His eternal Kingdom? That can change today.
Matthew 25:34
“Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.”
What is holding you back? God has been waiting for you to finally turn away from your sin and come to Him. We do that on our knees, putting our pasts behind us, turning our hearts to God, praying. Praying just like He taught us.
“Our Father, who art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy name...”
You know the rest.
