The Lord’s Prayer - "And The Glory"

Jesus makes this final statement about God in the last line of the Lord's Prayer. “Thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory..." (Matthew 6:13)

He is telling us that everything belongs to God, that we live in God's Kingdom, that He has power and authority over us and that glory is His. Let me repeat that last part; Glory belongs to God.

We do not take glory for ourselves. We do, however, participate in it. In fact, this is why we were created, to give Him glory. Have you ever asked this question, "Why did God create the world?"

We were created to have a relationship with God and to give Him glory. That is our job, our purpose. Giving glory to God is what truly fulfills us. He created us and the world for that very reason. Isaiah 43 says that God is calling for His people to return. Who are His people? He identifies them this way:

Isaiah 43:6-7

“I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ and to the south, ‘Do not hold them back.’ Bring My sons from afar and My daughters from the ends of the earth, everyone who is called by My name, and whom I have created for My glory, whom I have formed, even whom I have made.”

God created mankind for His glory, but we chose to rebel against Him and seek that glory for ourselves. Hence the problem of sin. Isaiah goes on to tell us that our sins have made a separation between us and God.

Have you ever sinned? Then Isaiah is talking about you. Have you found your life to be one difficulty after another? Does it seem to you like the things you do often fail or turn out badly? Do you ever find yourself thinking that life could be better than it is?

May I suggest that perhaps you are not giving glory to God? When we glorify God, life is better. Why? Because when we do that, we are doing what we were designed to do and God promises that it will result in our being blessed.

That doesn’t mean all of our problems will go away, but it does mean that God will become more important than our problems. Believers find their true purpose and identity in this.

Find a way to give God glory for something today. You will find that when you start doing that, your problems become smaller and God becomes bigger. Your life is upside down right now. Turn it back around and watch your life change!

Revelation 4:11

“Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.”
