The Acts Of Worship - Tremble (Part 3 of 3)

1 Chronicles 16:30

“Tremble before Him, all the earth.”

In Psalms 29:8, the voice of the Lord shakes the earth. In Psalms 77:16 and Habakkuk 3:10, the sight of the Lord brings about the stirring of the waters and the quaking of the mountains in. All of those words - shake, stir and quake - are describing the trembling that is caused by the knowledge of God.

King Saul trembled when he was wounded in battle (1 Sam. 31:3), just as Jeremiah trembled in anguish over Jerusalem (Jer. 4:19). Job trembled in agony as he struggled with the physical and emotional pain of his own ordeal (Job 6:10).

All these tell us something about what stirs us to tremble but Isaiah plus it all out for us.

Isaiah 66:2

“But to this one I will look, to him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My Word.”

Do you tremble at the knowledge of God? When you read God‘s Word, and you start to see a bigger and bigger picture of who God is and what He has done for you, does it force you to your knees in humble adoration, trembling before Him?

You see, THAT is the goal. You were created to serve Him but you are in rebellion against that very idea. When we see that and come before Him, trembling at His presence, we are made free from our bonds and made alive in Him.

Galatians 5:1

“It was for freedom that Christ set us free…”
