The Acts Of Worship - Say

1 Chronicles 16:35

Then say, “Save us, O God of our salvation, and gather us and deliver us from the nations, to give thanks to Your holy name, and glory in Your praise.”

It’s fitting that this series about worship ends with one of the most common words in the Bible, the word “say”. That tells us a lot about God and who we are. God has created beings that are social. Communicating with one another is essential to the human experience.

Just doing a simple word count, we find that the Hebrew word “say” occurs about 546 times. Now, that’s not in the Bible. That’s how many times that word occurs before we get to the second book of the Bible! That’s just in Genesis alone.

What does that tell us? It tells us that talking about our worship is a part of worship itself. Telling others what it’s like to enter into a personal relationship with God should be the number one thing on our minds when we leave our place of worship.

Think about the examples of other worshippers throughout the scriptures. What was the response of the shepherds when they witnessed the newborn Christ? They went out glorifying and praising God. (Luke 2:20)

What was the experience of the woman at the well after she encountered Jesus? She ran into the village to tell everyone about what she had seen. (John 4:28)

What was the response of Mary when she saw the resurrected Jesus? She ran to tell the disciples. (John 20:18)

Those who were loved, healed, forgiven and touched by Jesus told others about Him. Why is that? It because you cannot encounter Jesus and walk away unchanged. That type of encounter cries out for us to share it with others.

When you encounter The Living God in a worship experience like that described in 1 Chronicles 16, you are literally commanded by God to go and tell other people about it, giving Him thanks and glory for the encounter. This is what we were created for. We are worshipers and we should be telling others, how to do that.

That is the proper and appropriate response to worshiping God.
