Jesus Loves Me

Jesus loves me, this I know.

Sometimes, I find myself "getting stuck" on a Bible verse. I can spend so much time analyzing a Bible passage that I end up overthinking it. What did it mean to the intended audience? What are the Greek words used here? How does our culture change the meaning of the verses?

It's not like these are bad questions, but if you’re not careful, you can completely miss what God is saying. The Bible is not supposed to be so complicated that we can't figure it out. When I am overthinking the Bible, I try to remember that we are worshipers, first and foremost. I’ll stop myself and sing a hymn. There is a little Bible song that most of us used to sing as children. It goes like this:

"Jesus loves me, this I know,

For the Bible tells me so;

Little ones to Him belong,

We are weak, but He is strong.

Yes, Jesus loves me;

Yes, Jesus loves me;

Yes, Jesus loves me;

The Bible tells me so."

‭When I sing that song it reminds me of what the Bible is all about. My head clears a little, my heart opens up and it helps me to remember that the Bible has a theme and that the love of Jesus is the main point.

Don't get me wrong, digging out the deep truths of scripture and wrestling with them is a beautiful thing. We just have to remember to take our hearts there with us.

John 13:1

“…having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.”
