The Acts Of Worship - Ascribe (Part 3 of 4)
1 Chronicles 16:28-29
“…Ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name.”
In Revelation 4, the elders ascribed honor to God. How do you honor God? What does that even mean?
When we honor someone, we recognize them by appreciating who they are and what they have done. Probably the best direction for how to do this comes from the Words of Jesus. When someone asked Him what the most important law was, He quoted Moses:
Deuteronomy 6:5
“You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”
Two things stand out here. First of all, honoring God requires love. The greatest law was to love God, but the second greatest was to love others. God is love (1John 4:8,16) so honoring Him requires us to acknowledge and affirm that.
The second thing to note is that honoring God involves every aspect of our being. We bring to the table our emotions, our thinking and our physical bodies. Heart, mind and soul is a reference to every aspect of a human life. Honoring God requires a 24-7, all-in approach to worship.
If we are to honor God, worship can never be a one-hour-a-week side light of our living. Worship has to be a part of who we are at our core and it has to be what we do in our quietest and busiest of moments, when we rise up in the morning and when we lay down at night.
Bringing glory to God is what we were created for, and we do that through our worship by honoring Him as the Lord of our lives. He is our Lord and we follow and obey Him.
That is what honoring God is all about.
