The Acts Of Worship - Ascribe (Part 2 of 4)

1 Chronicles 16:28-29

“…Ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name.”

I know, I know…we have already spent four days talking about glory at the beginning of this series. So, let’s take a slighty different approach this time around.

Glory has two elements to it. There is the idea of beautiful light and then there is the idea of a weight or heaviness. When God reveals His divine character to humans, these are the words we use to describe the indescribable: the glory of God.

So, how do you and ascribe glory to Him? It’s like this: we are human beings who are separated from our God and Creator. Because of that, we don’t think about Him. We live our lives thinking primarily about ourselves and what is important to us.

We like getting the glory for something. It makes us feel important and good. But, the Christian is different. We understand the world in terms of created beings who are dependent on God for everything. Without God we would have nothing.

We can claim nothing for our own, take no credit for any good that is done, receive no honor that is not ours and recognize that all things come from Him. We give Him the glory.

That is what it means to ascribe glory to Him. We are saying, “You are worthy. I understand that all glory belongs to you and I surrender any claim to any glory of my own.

This is the very heart of worship: ascribing to the Lord, the glory due His name.

1 Corinthians 10:31

“Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
