The Acts Of Worship - Ascribe (Part 4 of 4)

1 Chronicles 16:28-29

“…Ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name.”

In Revelation 4, the elders proclaim to God that He is worthy to receive glory, honor and power. They are “ascribing” these things to God. God is all-powerful so we recognize that when we worship Him and surrender all power to Him.

It’s hard to fathom God’s power because it is limitless and beyond measure. The best way to think of it is like this: when Jesus walked the earth, in human flesh and blood, there was nothing He could not do. He healed blind people, the lame walked again, lepers and the sick were made whole. He stood up in a boat and calmed a stormy sea that was so severe that seasoned fishermen feared for their lives.

He changed hearts, altered lives, challenged minds, turned nations upside-down, raised people from the dead and taught with an authority that changed humankind.

Jesus backed down from nothing. He commanded demons and they obeyed, stared down angry mobs, instructed kings, rebuked councils, silenced His critics and reshaped theology forever.

And when the time came, He willingly surrendered His eternal and infinite power and allowed Himself to be executed.

That is what Jesus is all about. He possessed all the power in the universe but He came with love and mercy, humbling Himself for the benefit of His creation.

Only sovereign power could accomplish that.

Philippians 2:8

“Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”
