Forgive Me, Lord - Part 7

Most of us will have a moment, at some point in our lives, when we realize that we need God. When that happens, we will find God ready and waiting for us. The question we will face is this: are WE ready for HIM?

When we finally figure out that we need God, we find out that our sin has caused a separation between us.

Psalms 51:9-10

“Hide Your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

When David asked God to “Hide His face” from his sins, he was admitting that his sin had changed his relationship with God. Even though his sin was forgiven, He knew that his wrongdoing was keeping him from fully experiencing the relationship with God that he was created for. So, he knelt before God and asked Him to overlook his past. There is, in David’s plea, an understanding that we cannot have a relationship with a holy God until we fully understand the depth and magnitude of the damage that our sin has done.

Isaiah 1:13-15

“...I cannot endure iniquity and the solemn assembly ... I will hide My eyes from you...”

Habakkuk 1:13

“Your eyes are too pure to approve evil, and You cannot look on wickedness with favor.”

The sin is gone but the heart that did the sinning is still there, still broken and still hard. How can a person like that stand before God who sees the heart, not our outer appearance? The heart has to be made new.

Fortunately, God specializes in that!

Ezekiel 11:19

“I will give them one heart, and put a new spirit within them. And I will take the heart of stone out of their flesh and give them a heart of flesh.”

God can fix any heart and His Holy Spirit can change any soul. God has a plan and He knows you and He knows what it will take to make you able to stand in His presence.

Can I get an amen?
