Fixing the Problem of Sin (Part 4 of 6)

Why is it such a bad idea to depend on our own thinking? We are pretty smart people and we have a broad perspective on things. Our judgment seems to be just fine. So, why can’t we depend on that?

Fixing the Problem of Sin (Part 4 of 6)

So far, we have seen that there is a problem in each of our lives. That problem is this: we are sinful and separated from God. We are in a place of rebellion and we have drifted away from our God-given purpose and direction.

The book of Proverbs tells us that He can make our paths straight. How can He do that?

Proverbs 3:5

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.”

Why is it such a bad idea to depend on our own thinking? We are pretty smart people and we have a broad perspective on things. Our judgment seems to be just fine. So, why can’t we depend on that?

God is our Designer and Creator. He knows how we work and He knows what we need more than we do. Therefore, instead of trying to find our own way through life, we should be seeking to line up our way of thinking with His way of thinking. That leads us back to our Bibles. Here are the two verses that follow that verse in Proverbs:

Proverbs 3:6-7

“In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes...”

Those verses tell us what God suggests for us if we want to get our lives right with Him. Jesus impacted the lives of all who acknowledged Him. People who trust in Jesus have their lives changed forever.

Rich men walked away sad and rejected, sinners left Him with a new purpose. The blind had their eyes opened and the lame walked, lepers were made whole again, the lost were found, the crooked were made straight and seekers were not disappointed.
