The Need For The Gospel (Part 3 of 6)

The crazy thing is this: you and I are just like that. The issue lies in who each one of us is, deep down inside. The Gospel tells us: We are all sinful. Our hearts are impacted by our sin. We do not think like God does.

The Need For The Gospel (Part 3 of 6)

There comes a time in every Christian’s journey with God where they will see something differently than the way God sees it. The Christian journey is all about that very thing. It’s the struggle of getting our ideas to line up with God’s.

The stories in the New Testament about Jesus teach us what the Gospel message is. How many times in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John do we see Jesus look straight at His own disciples and say “Do you still not get it?” (Look at Matt 15:16; Mark 6:52; 8:17-21; 9:9-10; 9:32; 14:13; John 6:60-61; 16:17-18).

Those passages tell the story of the disciples struggling for three years to try and put Jesus into their box. John 12:16 tells us that they really struggled to understand Him.

John 12:16

“These things His disciples did not understand at the first…”

The crazy thing is this: you and I are just like that. The issue lies in who each one of us is, deep down inside. The Gospel tells us:

  • We are all sinful.

  • Our hearts are impacted by our sin.

  • We do not think like God does.

The Bible tells that story in much harsher terms. Romans 3:23, Jeremiah 17:9-10 and Isaiah 55:8-9 reveal to us a picture of a humanity that is lost and no longer in touch with God. Our goals and desires are not His goals and desires. What we want is not what He wants.

So, that is the problem. Our thinking is faulty because it is affected by our sinful nature. Over the next few days, we will find out how the Gospel can fix that.
