Five Steps Towards Godly Wisdom: Gain Knowledge
Proverbs 1:5
A wise man will hear and increase in learning, and a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel.
In the Greek world, the Gnostics taught that knowledge was more important than spirituality. The more you knew, the more spiritual you became. The Bible, on the other hand, teaches that wisdom is the pathway to righteousness.
So, which is most important in becoming righteous, knowledge or wisdom? It’s best to understand the difference between the two. Knowledge is really just information and data. Wisdom is knowing how to use that information. Knowledge is essential to wisdom but, by itself, it’s just data.
-Knowledge is knowing that someone is struggling but wisdom knows how to lift them out of that struggle.
-Knowledge is knowing someone’s sin but wisdom knows how to correct and restore.
-Knowledge reads the words of the Bible but wisdom lets them change the heart.
-Knowledge speaks. Wisdom listens.
-Knowledge sees darkness. Wisdom shines the Light.
-Knowledge learns. Wisdom teaches.
-Knowledge reads the Word. Wisdom changes the world.
-Knowledge knows God is there. Wisdom bows before Him.
Wisdom and knowledge complete each other. I’ve known a lot of people who could tell you more stuff than you could ever fathom. They read books, watch documentaries, take classes, study everything and spent their entire lives watching videos and gathering knowledge. But, they don’t have wisdom.
Knowledge without wisdom never made anyone a better person. By itself, knowledge is completely incapable of changing a heart or saving a soul. But with wisdom and knowledge together, the wise become wiser and the knowledgeable become smarter.
That is a powerful duo, indeed!
