Finding The Real Jesus - Falling At His Feet
If I am being honest, I have to tell you that I’ve been looking forward to today. I’ve been waiting for this verse. Today we are going to look at Revelation 1:17.
For two weeks we have examined every element of John’s incredible vision of the risen Jesus. His white hair, His clothing, the resounding voice, the eyes of fire ... every detail. But, now we read about John and his response. What does a vision like that do to someone?
It’s compelling to stop and look at what’s taking place here. We are watching the story of how a man finds God. What’s taking place right before our eyes is that John is describing the pathway to God for us. Let’s look.
The first thing John did was to turn to hear God. That’s in verse 12. He heard God, turned and listened. Once that took place his eyes were opened and he saw the real Jesus. He didn’t see a version of Him or a picture of what he wanted Him to be. He saw Jesus for who He really is.
And then, he saw himself in the illuminating face of Jesus. When you see the strikingly pure face of God and you realize the truth about who YOU are, the only possible reaction is to do what John did:
Revelation 1:17
“When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man.”
That act of humble obedience led to John being raised up by the hand of Almighty God. As he lay on the ground, with his face covered before holy God, Jesus reached out and touched him, lifting him up and allowing him to stand in God’s presence, exalted and made worthy by Jesus Christ.
What we are reading is the actual process of James 4:10.
James 4:10
“Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.”
This is for us to see. It’s you and me. It is each one of us coming to the throne of God and being humbled to the point of worship, yet being exalted by the hand of our God.
It’s every man and woman’s story.
Philippians 2:10-11
“...at the name of Jesus, EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
