Faith’s Hall Of Fame: Moses In Egypt

Hebrews 11:24

“By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter.”

Moses was raised as royalty. He excelled as a grandson of the Pharoah. In Acts 7:22, Stephen gave us some insight as to what Moses had become. He was “educated in all the learning of the Egyptians, and he was a man of power in words and deeds.”

Moses was on the pathway to greatness in Egypt. He had power and influence and was educated by the best of the best, but he was missing something. It was his heritage. He didn’t quite belong.

Moses knew something about himself that others didn’t know. He was a Hebrew. He had come from those very slaves that he was overseeing.

When Pharoahs’ daughter first found the baby Moses, she enlisted his own mother to nurse and care for him. As a result, Moses never really drifted that far from his roots. Eventually, that caught up to him because he knew the truth. Stephen added this tidbit of information: It entered Moses’ mind to “visit” his brethren.

What a change that would make in his life. In his quest to learn more about his own heritage, he would lose everything. At the age of 40, Moses found himself fleeing his home; the Egyptian prince would soon became a Hebrew nomad.

His faith, which was fallow and empty in the palace, would be stretched and challenged in the wilderness. That’s how faith works. It needs to be put to the test. It must be used in order to grow. Faith rarely gets used when you don’t know you need it.

When you are one of Gods’ people, it doesn’t matter where you are or what you are doing, you are His and He wants your faith to grow. Then, when He calls on you to serve Him, He will find you and get you to where you need to be.

Moses would have another 40 years to figure that out.
