Day By Day And With Each Passing Moment

Lina Sandell was one of the greatest poets to ever grace the land of Sweden. Her poems were legendary in her homeland and many of them have been translated into other languages.

Among her accomplished is the fact that she wrote over 600 hymns in her lifetime. She has often been called the "Fanny Crosby of Sweden."

Many of her hymns deal with a daily struggle that followed her throughout her life. That struggle stemmed from a life altering experience at the age of 26.

Her father was a popular Lutheran pastor. One afternoon, he and Lina set off on a boating adventure across Lake Vättern. That pleasant family outing turned tragic when a rogue wave hit the boat, causing her father to fall overboard. She watched him drown before her own eyes.

Lina never got over the incident but she poured herself into poetry, driven by her pain and sorrow. Her faith in God upheld her, day by day, and that is the source of strength that she writes about throughout her poems.

Day By Day is an encouragement for all of us, giving us comfort and peace to get through each day with the guiding hand of our Heavenly Father. It is He that carries us through each day, each hour and each moment.

Day by day, and with each passing moment,

Strength I find to meet my trials here;

Trusting in my Father's wise bestowment,

I've no cause for worry or for fear.

He, whose heart is kind beyond all measure,

Gives unto each day what He deems best,

Lovingly its part of pain and pleasure,

Mingling toil with peace and rest.
