Faith’s Hall Of Fame: Moses’ Birth

Hebrews 11:23

“By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.”

The journey of faith for Moses does not begin in front of the burning bush. It doesn’t start at the shores of the Red Sea or even on top of Mount Sinai. His journey began before he was even born.

There was something different about Moses. The New Testament records it by using a word that means literally “in the city“. It’s a direct reference to his charisma and leadership qualities but it also suggests his beautiful physical appearance and his persona. The book of Exodus uses the Hebrew word for “good“. It’s the same word God used when He created everything and said, “It was good.“

That special quality would protect Moses. His parents were ordered to kill him by the Pharaoh’s men but they refused. Likewise, the midwives who delivered him refused. When they could no longer keep him hidden, they set him afloat down the Nile River, where Pharaoh’s daughter felt the same way. She took him for her own.

God was doing something with Moses. He had a plan and that plan was put into motion before the foundations of the Earth were even made. Moses would be raised in the very house of the Pharaoh and he would rise to prominence in the kingdom of Egypt, but he would trade all of that in a moment of integrity and a love for his own people.

Moses was different. It’s hard to put those qualities into words, but we’ve all known men and women who possess that incredible charisma that just draws people to them. That was Moses, and it would be evident throughout his life.

Next, we will take a look at Moses as a leader in Pharaoh’s Court who finds himself fleeing for his life after making the biggest decision he ever made.
