14 Reasons Jesus Went To The Cross - Reconciliation

We’ve talked about redemption, propitiation, justification and a whole bunch of other big, scary words but reconciliation is different. Those other things fulfill the demands of the law, satisfy justice, give us a place in God’s family and teach us lots of things, but here’s what they don’t do. They break down the walls but they don’t fix our hearts. We still have to fix our broken relationship with God.

Do you see where this is going? Jesus satisfied all the necessary requirements and did all the right things but He needs to fix your heart.

You rebelled against God. You insulted Him, rejected Him, ignored and neglected Him. You have regularly failed to submit to Him, to obey and honor Him and to put Him first in your life. In short, your relationship with God is broken and in desperate need of fixing.

Look at yourself with God’s eyes. Would you stay in a relationship with someone who treated you like that?

Neither would I. Let’s face it, I would be long gone and I’d never look back. That is what makes His grace so amazing. We don’t deserve anything but wrath and punishment from Him yet He turned to us and allows us to come to Him.

Think about it, you weren’t seeking to be reconciled with Him. Romans tells us that no one seeks Him. Yet, you are seeking Him, right? So how does that work? And, how do we ever find Him if we don’t seek Him?

The answer is in the Gospel of John.

John 6:44

“No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him.”

You do not seek God until He draws you and puts it in your heart to seek Him. When that happens, reconciliation is possible and just waiting for you to respond.

Jeremiah 29:12-13

“Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.”

More on that tomorrow.
