14 Reasons Jesus Went To The Cross - Peace With God

Romans 5:1

“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

So far, we have looked at 11 different things that Jesus accomplished by going to the cross:

1. Atoned for Sin

2. Defeated Death

3. Redeemed The World

4. Justified You And Me

5. Turned Away God’s Wrath

6. Paid For Our Sins

7. Established A New Covenant

8. Revealed God’s Love

9. Adopted Us

10. Fulfilled Prophecy

11. Demonstrated Obedience

That leaves three things that He accomplished and we will address all three today and tomorrow. The thing He accomplished is peace with God. How He accomplished that peace is found through the remaining two this He did.

Did you know that you are at war with God? The Bible clearly teaches this. Look at these two passages:

James 4:4-5

“Do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.”

Romans 8:6-7

“For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so.”

The Bible is clear. Without the cross, you belong to the world and you are the enemy of God. You are at war with your Lord and Creator. So, how do you fix that?

The cross, of course! Two things took place that bring us peace with God. The first of those is reconciliation. Reconciliation happens when we change from being hostile to God to becoming His friend. Our hearts of stone become hearts of flesh and we love and honor Him.

That’s tomorrow.
