Worship The Lord - Intro

What if someone asked you what Christians are all about? We know that love is important. Jesus gave His followers a command to love and then said this:

John 13:35

“By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Apparently, love is pretty important to the believer. But, then, so is glorifying God. In fact, Isaiah tells us that is why we were created.

Isaiah 43:7

“Everyone who is called by My name, and whom I have created for My glory, whom I have formed, even whom I have made.”

We could throw out all sorts of options, really. We could argue that our primary purpose as believers is to preach the Gospel, to feed the poor, to pray for each other, to teach the Word … we could make quite a long list.

I think you’ll find, though, that there is one word that kind of covers all of that. Over the next several days I’m going to argue that we are designed to be worshippers.

That is what we are to do. That is why we meet together and gather in a “Worship Service.” We were created to worship our God. So, how do we do that? In fact, what exactly is worship?

We will learn about that tomorrow when we start our in depth look at the only chapter in scripture that outlines an entire worship service for us. Yes, that’s right. There is only one time in the entire Bible, after the Books of Moses, where we are given a start-to-finish description of a complete worship service to God.

Do you know where that is in the Bible? Feel free to tell me what chapter you think I’m talking about and I’ll come back tomorrow and start to break it down in a way that brings new life to your worship and clarity to our mission as His followers.

Tomorrow - What is worship?
