Woe To You Scribes And Pharisees - Part 6

Matthew 23:15

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you travel around on sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves.”

I remember the first time that I realized that not every church was a good and proper church. What I mean by that is not what you think. I’m not judging anyone but I will make an observation based on what I know about God. What I have observed is this: some churches don’t know God at all.

The god they present to their congregations does not exist. They don’t know or understand the God of the Bible. Instead, they have created a god that is an image of themselves. Their god loves what they love, likes what they like, says what they want and overlooks the sins they want him to ignore.

That god does not exist. It’s a type of placebo. So, we ask the question, if their god isn’t real, who (or what) are they following? Even more importantly, where are they going? They are on the wide path that Jesus talked about.

Matthew 7:13-14

“...the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction ... the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life.”

I once read about a church with a pastor who is an atheist. What?? What is he teaching? Where is he leading his people? Alistair Begg has said that the worst offender in keeping people from finding God will be the church. Churches that preach a false gospel, present a fake god, follow their own words instead of the Bible and make up their own rules to stroke their own egos will learn, one day, that they not only got lost but they led a host of people down that path with them.

A sinful heart is still sinful, a carnal mind is still carnal and a soul in bondage is still enslaved if it is never set free. The church must deliver Truth, cleanse hearts and teach about the One True Living God who says, “Do what I say and follow Me.”

That is the narrow road that leads to life.
