When God Showed Up For Adam
Before sin entered the world—before shame, fear, or brokenness—God showed up and gave purpose.

When God Showed Up For Adam
The story of God showing up in human history begins at the very beginning. In Genesis 1-2, God creates everything that exists and then He makes man. Adam and Eve experience something no one else ever has: God speaks to them face-to-face.
They do not ask God to appear or seek His guidance. They don’t even realize that they need direction. And yet—God showed up.
Genesis 2:8
“The LORD God planted a garden toward the east, in Eden; and there He placed the man whom He had formed.”
Before Adam speaks a word or chooses a path, God shows up. He places man and his helper exactly where He wants them to be and gives clear instruction—not to restrict them, but to define him.
God gives Adam 3 tasks:
• Cultivate
• Keep
• Obey
Without getting lost in detail, we could summarize it like this:
• Be productive
• Preserve what you have
• Honor Your Creator
God is revealing something about Himself. He is a God who gives direction.
God is the Giver of purpose and meaning.
Adam and Eve don’t create their own identity. They don’t define their own mission. They don’t search for meaning. Meaning is given to them—by God. This is critical: purpose does not come from within us; it comes from the God who made us.
Have you ever heard someone say they are trying to find purpose or meaning in life? They feel like life has no direction.
I see it everywhere—people drifting, restless, unanchored, searching for something they can’t quite name. They will never find it by looking inward. Meaning is revealed. We find it when God shows up and speaks.
Our purpose in life has never changed. We were made to produce something, preserve what God has entrusted to us and honor Him through obedience and trust.
And here’s the amazing part—He gives us Himself to make that happen. Before sin entered the world—before shame, fear, or brokenness—God showed up and gave purpose.
When God shows up, life has meaning.
When God speaks, direction becomes clear.
When God is honored, purpose is fulfilled.
Allow me to introduce you God’s plan: Genesis 2 reveals a God who shows up and gives meaning, direction, and purpose to your life.
He did it then and He still does it now.
