Two Worlds In Conflict

Yesterday, we ended by saying, “You can speak the truth in love all day long but it will always sound like hate speech to those who love the world and hate the truth of God.”

What’s going on here is this: When it comes to God, there are two types of people in this world. There are those who know ABOUT God and those who KNOW God. They don’t see God in the same way.

Those who know ABOUT God will always see God as they want to see Him. God thinks like them, talks like them, acts like them and is only interested in what they want. God never disapproves and He never says no.

Let me just say this: that version of God does not exist. That is an idol made in man’s image. I’ve heard it said this way; if your God always agrees with you, then you are your God. When you come to that place in your faith, it is almost impossible to believe in the God that is revealed in the Bible.

That’s why they oppose true faith so much. Their faith feels right to them because it never challenges them, never contradicts them and never convicts them. It fits the narrative that they want the world to look like. When you preach about the God of the Bible, you are a threat to that person because they don’t really know God. They only know about Him.

The fact of the matter is that God is not always what we want Him to be. In fact, sometimes He is what we fear.

Tomorrow: God doesn’t change Himself to fit our opinions. He is who He is. In fact, that is actually His name.
