The Names Of Jesus - “The Root”
Why is this name of Jesus so important? I once heard a preacher explain the Chinese Bamboo tree and how it grows.

The Names Of Jesus - “The Root”
Isaiah 11:1
“Then a Shoot will spring from the Stem of Jesse and a Branch from his Roots will bear fruit.”
Every tree starts with a strong root. The tree that is Jesus, is defined by those roots. Ezekiel 17 describes the importance of the trees’ roots. Amazingly, Revelation refers to Jesus as the Root of David twice:
Revelation 5:5
“Stop weeping; behold, the Lion that is from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals.”
Revelation 22:16
“I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches. I am the Root and the Descendant of David, the Bright Morning Star.”
Why is this name of Jesus so important? I once heard a preacher explain the Chinese Bamboo tree and how it grows.
The Chinese Bamboo begins as a seed that germinates quickly but then lies dormant for up to 5 years. During that time, the plant does absolutely nothing that is visible to the farmer. However, underneath the ground, the plant is fervently building a root system. For 5 years, those roots are extending outwards under the ground. They are growing, reaching farther and farther, wrapping themselves around rocks and anything else that is solid.
Then, once the roots are in place, the tree begins to grow. Those roots are ready for action and that tree will grow up to 98 feet in one year. Some Chinese Bamboo trees have been measured as growing 35 inches in a single day! All that is only possible because of strong roots.
Jesus is the Root of every believer and every church. You may not feel like you are growing in your faith but you are building a foundation. Your church may not look like it’s growing but that’s only because you don’t see the support system that is unfurling underneath.
Jesus is the foundation upon which every believer, every church and every doctrine must be built. He is the Root of David.
Romans 11:16
“If the first piece of dough is holy, the lump is also; and if the root is holy, the branches are too.”
