The Names Of Jesus - “Head Of The Church”
Why is headship so important to the church? Well, the church is designed according to a model. That model is heaven itself. God designed the church after the pattern of the Trinity that is based on headship, submission and obedience.

The Names Of Jesus - “Head Of The Church”
Ephesians 1:22
“And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church.”
Paul wrote the book of Ephesians to a church that had a clear understanding of the structure needed to keep a church functional and full of life. He clearly teaches that the church must have a Head. That Head, according to Paul, is Jesus.
Why is headship so important to the church? Well, the church is designed according to a model. That model is heaven itself. God designed the church after the pattern of the Trinity that is based on headship, submission and obedience.
God the Father is the Head, the Holy Spirit submits and the Son obeys. Those are the defining roles of each member of the Trinity. So, the church has a Head: Jesus and the elders submit that Head and the congregation obeys.
If you want to follow that path further, God designs that pattern into just about everything in our world. The king is the head, the prophets submit and the priests obey. The husband is the head, the wife submits and the children obey.
Unfortunately, our world is broken and headship, submission and obedience take on a horrible face of dominance, fear and enslavement when they are present in a sinful and evil world.
Only Jesus can redeem them because Christ makes all things perfect. That’s why biblical headship, submission and obedience will never be understood or trusted by the world.
Christ as the Head is the only way those things can work in our world of imperfect politics and justice.
Colossians 1:18
“He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything.”
