The Names Of God Series - Jehovah Jireh

Jesus used that to teach us that when we have God, we have all that we need. God is a Provider. He knows what we need and He will provide it for the journey. In God’s eyes, success is not having a bunch of stuff that takes our eyes off of Him. It’s having a solid relationship with Him. We work best when we live life with God squarely in charge of our hearts. In fact, Jesus taught us this in the Sermon on the Mount:

Jehovah Jireh - The Lord Who Provides

Not too long ago, the western part of our nation was unsettled and wild. There were no paved roads and there were no stores along the way. When someone set out to move west, they knew that it was going to be a long, hard trip.

Settlers loaded up wagons for the trip. When we read the stories of what some people chose to take with them, it’s amazing to learn what was important to some. The trails became littered with the things that were thrown out along the way.

Those “important” things made the journey harder. A cast iron stove is a great thing but you can’t cross a river with it in your wagon. People found that the stuff they thought was important made their journey impossible. They had to learn to let go of some things in order to get where they were going.

Do you see the analogy of our journey with God? Growing close to God is harder when we are attached to worldly things. Listen to Jesus explain spiritual growth by describing how a seed can’t grow fully if it has weeds choking it:

Mark 4:19

“...but the worries of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things enter in and choke the Word...”

Matthew 6:33

“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

What is it that is keeping you from placing God where He belongs in your life? What do you need to let go of to make your relationship with Him grow?

Let go! Once you do, you will see how life can be so much better. He is The Lord Our Provider!

Genesis 22:14

“Abraham called the name of that place The Lord Will Provide, as it is said to this day, ‘In the mount of the Lord it will be provided.’”
