The Measure Of A Church - Knowing Him vs. Knowing About Him

There are about a gazillion churches in this world. Well, that’s not literally true but there are about 375,000 churches in America. That’s quite a lot, actually. How many of those churches do you think truly know God? Notice that I didn’t say “know about God”? Knowing Him and knowing ABOUT Him are not the same.

Christian researchers study such things. In 2022, American Worldview Inventory revealed that more than one-third of the pastors in America reject biblical teaching on a wide range of issues. That means that their theology comes from the culture around them, not from God.

So there are about 150,000 churches out there that no longer look to God as their source of truth. So, what IS their source of truth?

I recently watched a video of a Protestant Pastor who was pleading with his audience to “Put your Bibles down and listen to me.” When a church abandons the Bible, it veers away from truth and faith, preaching worldly morals and values rather than godly ones. When a church turns its back on traditional Christian beliefs and teachings, that church has moved outside the box of Christianity. It can’t know God without God teaching them about Himself.

And, yet, they claim to be leading others to God. How can a church lead anyone to God when they don’t know Him? How can you know God if you don’t believe His Word? How can you find Him if you don’t have the Holy Spirit? Jesus called leaders like this “The blind leading the blind.”

A church like that worships a god that is produced by culture, not the God of the Bible. A church is no longer a church when it reflects the culture around us more than the Christ within us.
