The Gospel Starts Here (Part 2 of 6)
That’s not the problem. The problem isn’t that we don’t live up to our own standard. The problem is that we don’t have the RIGHT standard.

The Gospel Starts Here (Part 2 of 6)
It’s never a bad time to share the Gospel. Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen so much happen in our world that I think it would be helpful to spend a couple days going back to our roots. Let’s talk about the good news of the Gospel.
Here’s where the Gospel starts: within the hearts of each and every one of us. Although we like to think that we are good people and we’re doing just great, the Bible paints a different a picture. The truth is that we are lost without God. When we live our lives for ourselves, trusting in our own abilities and our own morals, we fall short.
I know a lot of people who think that they are doing just fine. Well, according to their own standards they probably are. We each set a standard for our own lives. We have goals and we often do a decent job of living up to all that.
That’s not the problem. The problem isn’t that we don’t live up to our own standard. The problem is that we don’t have the RIGHT standard. The goal in life isn’t to do some nice things, stay out of any major trouble and die “ahead of the game.”
The Gospel makes it clear that there is much greater goal in life: to be reconciled to our Creator. We need to be restored to God. That means that it is HIS standard that we need to live by.
Now, that’s a completely different ball game. Here is a verse to meditate on until we come back here tomorrow to learn about what God’s standard is.
Proverbs 3:5
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.”
