Sharing The Gospel (Part 1 of 6)

One of the special things about becoming a Christian is trying to figure out how to describe what’s going on inside of you to other people. How do we explain the Gospel to others?

They have never experienced what we are going through so they don’t understand what we’re talking about. To make things more awkward, we have never experienced this before so we don’t know how to describe it, either.

This is one of the things that makes reading the New Testament such a joy. The New Testament was written by great minds who have gone through the same experience. They teach us how to explain the Gospel in a way that makes sense. Here’s what Paul says about experiencing Christ for the first time:

Ephesians 3:16-19

“...strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.”

What a beautiful description of what is happening inside the Christians’ soul. How do you explain that to somebody? Words like peace, joy, love and hope are all helpful but they can’t fully convey what we are going through.

I have found, over time, that the best way to share the Gospel is to live a life that shouts what He is doing in me. Actions speak louder than any words. As Spurgeon once said, “Preach the gospel always, and if necessary, use words.”

1 John 3:14

“We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren.”

Tomorrow we will start a new series on what the Gospel is and what it means to the world around us.
