The Acts Of Worship - Seek (Part 3)
1 Chronicles 16:11
“Seek the LORD and His strength; seek His face continually.”
In Colossians 1:12, Paul calls believers “Saints in the Light.” Literally, that means we are holy ones in the Light. That is a reference to the illuminating, judging, purifying Light of Jesus Christ. That’s the same Jesus who calls Himself the Light of the World in John’s Gospel:
John 8:12
Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”
It is that Light that makes us holy. The face of Christ is an illuminating Light that exposes us, revealing who we are. The writer of Hebrews describes it this way:
Hebrews 4:13
“And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.”
Those eyes, in Hebrews 4:12, pierce right into the soul and spirit and “judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart”. The eyes of Jesus drive us to our knees as utterly unworthy to stand before a holy and pure God. Now, if that were the end of the story, we would be forever doomed and there would never be any hope for any of us ever again. But that is a thing of joy and beauty, not of dread and fear. Those piercing eyes are also purifying eyes. They cleanse as they judge.
Psalms 51:7-10
“Purify me … Wash me … Make me to hear joy and gladness, let the bones which You have broken rejoice. Hide Your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
It is the face of Jesus that allows you and I to be made righteous, able to stand in the presence of God.
