The Acts Of Worship - Glory (Part 2)

Let's start off by looking at how the Bible describes glory. We’re going to look at two words that bring the meaning of glory into focus for us. There is a word associated with glory in the Scriptures that we don't use very much anymore. It beautifully describes what glory is all about. That word is "behold".

The Acts Of Worship - Glory (Part 2)

1 Chronicles 16:10

“Glory in His holy name.”

Let's start off by looking at how the Bible describes glory. We’re going to look at two words that bring the meaning of glory into focus for us.

There is a word associated with glory in the Scriptures that we don't use very much anymore. It beautifully describes what glory is all about. That word is "behold".

We behold God’s glory. We don't just see it or look at it and we don't just glance at it. We behold it.

This is where the newer translations of the Bible fail us. They use words like "look" or "see" which ignore the impact of what it means to behold something. It means to stare at something with amazement and wonder.

This is what God's glory is all about! It is, in many ways, beyond our comprehension. We are amazed so we stare at it in astonishment. Our eyes become fixed on the glory of God.

So, let's leave it there for today and tomorrow we will look at the other word that is used to describe God's glory - the word "brilliant". I think when we put those two words together, we will begin to see the impact of what God's glory has on us.

For today, just think about what it means to behold something.

Deuteronomy 5:24

“You said, ‘Behold, the LORD our God has shown us His glory and His greatness…’”
