Second Coming (By David Peterson of the Rock Of Jesus Church)

Jesus was on the Mount of Olives when the disciples asked Him about future events. Jesus tells them what to expect on the Day of the Lord, from Matthew 24:29-31: “But immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory. And He will send forth His angels with a great trumpet blast, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.” Similar words are found in Mark 13:24-27 and Luke 21:25-28 where Jesus prophesizes that they will see Him, in great glory, and He will be the sign, assuring all believers that He will gather them.

Pastor John MacArthur wrote about 10 reasons why there must be a second coming: “1. Jesus must return because the promise of God demands it. 2. The claims of Christ Himself demand it. 3. The testimony of the Holy Spirit demands it. 4. The future of the church demands it. 5. The corruption of the world demands it. 6. Jesus must come because the covenant He made with Israel demands it. 7. The vindication of Christ Himself demands His return. 8. The judgment of Satan demands His coming. 9. The hope of believers demands it. 10 The groaning of the whole creation demands it.”

Jesus will return for His believers as the bible tells us, from all of the demands listed, and because He promised He would.

Civilla Martin wrote the inspirational hymn “Will You and I Be There?” in 1911. The first verse is;

Will you be there, with Christ in the air?

Where all His own shall greet Him,

Will you be sad? or will you be glad?

When at the throne you meet Him?

Martin poses a revealing question to all believers: Will you be there?

Let us pray: Savior Jesus, allow us to embrace the promise of your return to save followers. Teach us to wait for You by your second coming. Amen.
