Power
Pastor Alistair Begg wrote about a counter-power to watch out for with this thought; “As a result of grace, we have been saved from sin’s penalty. One day we will be saved from sin’s presence. In the meantime we are being saved from sin’s power.”

Power (by David Peterson at The Rock Of Jesus Church)
While in the hometown of Capernaum for His ministry, Jesus conducts several miracles. In Matthew 9:28-30 it reads; And after He entered the house, the men who were blind came up to Him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.” Then He touched their eyes, saying, “It shall be done for you according to your faith.” And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, saying, “See that no one knows about this!”
These men had strong faith and Jesus heals them with His holy power of grace. Pastor Alistair Begg wrote about a counter-power to watch out for with this thought; “As a result of grace, we have been saved from sin’s penalty. One day we will be saved from sin’s presence. In the meantime we are being saved from sin’s power.” Begg points to the saving power of Christ in our lives, both now and in eternity.
1780 was the year that Reverend Edward Perronet penned his popular hymn “All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name”. With an eloquent praise, Perronet’s hymn jubilantly portrays the power of Jesus, both in name and through His grace. Here are verses 1 and 2 of this great hymn;
1 All hail the power of Jesus' name!
Let angels prostrate fall.
Bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown Him Lord of all.
Bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown Him Lord of all!
2 O seed of Israel's chosen race
now ransomed from the fall,
hail Him who saves you by His grace,
and crown Him Lord of all.
Hail Him who saves you by His grace,
and crown Him Lord of all!
By the way; a diadem is a crown, or more like an ornamental headband. While worn by monarchs and others as a badge of royalty, in this hymn, it is referred to as the Lord’s crown.
Let us pray: Son of man, Holy Savior, we praise Your name. Your power to heal and save points to Your majesty. Let every knee bow with the acknowledgement that Jesus Christ is Lord of all! Amen.
