Our King Loves Us
The fact that God is our King affects the way we speak to Him.
There are certain things we come to expect from a king. We understand that a king has authority and power. Likewise, a king is to be honored, respected and obeyed. Our prayers to God reflect that kind of relationship. We praise Him, honor Him, glorify Him and humble ourselves before Him.
The unexpected part of Christianity is that our King loves us.
Many people don’t understand this about God. He has an undeniable, unlimited and unabashed love for His people. The King of the universe invites us into His presence through prayer, where we can speak with Him and enjoy a relationship with Him.
When we stop and think about it, that is truly astounding. Kings don’t have to love. In fact, love is not usually the first thing that comes to mind when we think of kings. Yet our King seeks us out because of His great love for us. He takes time to listen to us and He reaches out to help us know Him better.
That is what prayer does. It allows us to enjoy a relationship with our God and King that is both reverent and personal.
1 Timothy 6:15-17
“…He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! … fix your hope on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy.”
Let that truth shape your prayers this week. Come to God with reverence because He is your King. Come to Him with confidence because He loves you.
And never forget that the King of kings is listening.
Hebrews 4:16
“Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
