Mikes’ Story - Part 3 of 4

What does a guy like Mike do now? He has made peace with God but he is still facing an insurmountable obstacle in the consequences from his previous lifestyle. That shows up in the form of debt, child support, court fines, legal fees, penalties and taxes. A job just doesn’t make sense. Virtually everything he earns will be taken from him.

I heard a great preacher put it this way: If you want something you’ve never had before, you have to do something you’ve never done before. That means making a change and start living life the way God designed us to live it. Mike had to start living a life for God, not for himself.

To you and I that means reading God’s Word, being in a church, praying and surrounding ourselves with good friends. But Mike had an extra step that he had to take. For him, the missing piece of the puzzle was getting a job. He needed to be working, even if the money didn’t add up. He needed a job and it didn’t matter what it paid. Thats right, even a minimum wage job with s garnished paycheck will help. That seems crazy but hear me out.

How did a job make a difference? How did Mikes’ life change because of work? God never promised to just make all that debt magically disappear. Child support is an obligation. There are children who need it. The same is true about alimony, court fees and taxes. God doesn’t tell us to be irresponsible and then He will magically make everything go away.

God calls us to be like Him. It’s when we do that that things start to change. Read the rest of Mikes’ story tomorrow.
