Five Steps Towards Godly Wisdom: Read And Pray (Part 3)
Psalms 19:7
The law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul. The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
There is no shortcut to wisdom. I’m sorry to be the one to tell you that. There is no magic wand or wave if the hand that makes someone wise. It is a process
I once heard someone say that you should never ask God for patience because He doesn’t just magically give you patience. The way it works is that He puts you on trying situations that constantly test your patience and you eventually become patient through many trials and tests.
Likewise, wisdom comes through a process. That process takes time and practice and it MUST involve God’s Word. Thats where wisdom is found. Look at the following verse:
Psalms 119:100-104
“I understand more than the aged because I have observed Your precepts. I have restrained my feet from every evil way that I may keep Your Word. I have not turned aside from Your ordinances for You Yourself have taught me. How sweet are Your Words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth! From Your precepts I get understanding, therefore I hate every false way.”
Could it be any clearer? Reading God’s Word produces wisdom surer and more effectively than any other way. Why is that?
When we understand the true nature of God’s Word, it begins to come into focus for us. On Monday, we’ll take a closer look at what that means. For now, think and meditate on this verse over the weekend:
Deuteronomy 4:5-6
“I have taught you statutes and judgments … so keep and do them, for that is your wisdom and your understanding …”
Deuteronomy 32:46-47
“Take to your heart all the Words with which I am warning you today, which you shall command your sons to observe carefully, even all the Words of this law. For it is not an idle Word for you; indeed it is your life. And by this Word you will prolong your days ...”
