Five Steps Towards Godly Wisdom: Humble Yourself

Proverbs 11:2

“When pride comes, then comes dishonor, But with the humble is wisdom.”

Pride is harmful because it causes us to seek our own way in life. When we follow our own thinking and our own desires, we are choosing our own way over God’s way. We are rejecting God and His eternal, un-erring wisdom.

Who knows me better than the One who designed and created me? He knows me better than I know myself. He knows how I work and what is best for me. Look at how King David describes how intimately God knows each of us:

Psalms 139:1-3

“O LORD, You have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up. You understand my thought from afar. You scrutinize my path and my lying down and are intimately acquainted with all my ways.”

To realize that God knows me like that yet to still insist on seeking my own way is nothing short of arrogance. God wants us humble because it is in our humility that we can hear Him and can follow Him.

Do you want to access the infinite, immeasurable, all-knowing wisdom of God? Start here:

1 Peter 5:6-7

“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.”
