Faith’s Hall of Fame: Joshua
Hebrews 11:30
“By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they had been encircled for seven days.”
Oswald Chambers once said something to this effect: “Sometimes faith doesn’t know where it is being led, but it loves and knows the One who is leading.”
Joshua became the leader of the Israelites when Moses died. He led them into the Promised Land with one of the strangest battle plans ever devised. There were no weapons involved—no swords, no bows, no battering rams, and no spears. How, then, could the people of God overtake an armed city with walls up to 30 feet high and 20 feet thick?
The plan began with the greatest weapons known to this world: faith and worship.
Faith in God believes that He is Faithful and True, and that what He has promised, He will deliver. That kind of faith requires silent obedience. It requires quiet trust when we’re tempted to speak doubt, demand answers, or rush God’s process.
But first, there must be worship. Victory over impenetrable walls can’t happen without hearts surrendered to God. For six days, nothing visible happened. Every step tested whether the people would trust God when nothing seemed to be changing. Persevering faith means obeying even when the walls haven’t started to crack yet.
2 Corinthians 10:4
“For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses.”
That kind of faith brings victory every single time. That is what God desires from each of us. It is the lesson of Joshua and the walls of Jericho: God chooses humble obedience over might, and trust over strength and tactics.
