Day 4: My
Psalm 23:1 — “The LORD is my Shepherd…”
Yep. Another little tiny word that makes this whole psalm come to life.
My.
David doesn’t say: “The LORD is a Shepherd.” He says: “The LORD is myshepherd.”
Christ is a person. We have relationships with persons. That makes Christ personal.
Lots of people know facts about God. They know Bible stories. They study doctrines. They know all about church traditions. But faith in Jesus is more than just information—it is a relationship.
A man or a woman can know everything there is to know about marriage and still not be married. Likewise, a person can know a lot of things about God without truly knowing God.
The Hebrew language often uses personal pronouns to express terms of relationship. David understood something special about God: The God who created the stars also knew David’s name.
The God who rules nations also watched over one small shepherd boy in the little town of Bethlehem. Jesus knew that, too. He once made this statement:
“I know My own and My own know Me.” (John 10:14)
Notice that relationship goes both directions—He knows us. We know Him.
Imagine being in a crowded stadium with 80,000 people and suddenly someone calls your name. That would get your attention, wouldn’t it?
Why? Because personal things cut through the noise. All the noise is the same at some point but when it suddenly becomes personal, your mind hears that and sorts it out.
The Creator of the universe knows your name. That should never stop amazing us. Look at these verses:
John 10:14
“I am the Good Shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me.”
Isaiah 43:1
“But now, thus says the LORD, your Creator, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel, ‘Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine!’”
So, what about you? Can you honestly say: “The LORD is my shepherd”?
Not my parents’ shepherd.
Not my pastor’s shepherd.
Not my church’s shepherd.
My shepherd.
Before you move on, pause and read verse 1 aloud. Then ask yourself: Is my relationship with God personal, current, and growing—or am I living on someone else’s faith?
Many admire, study and talk about Him. But only His sheep can say, “The LORD is my Shepherd.”
