Day 2: LORD
As believers, our confidence is not in our circumstances but in the God who never changes.

Day 2: LORD
Psalm 23:1 — “The LORD is…”
David is referring to the great and holy God when He calls upon Him in Psalm 23. He knows His name and the holiness that it entails. So let’s look at what that tells us about David and his relationship with God.
David knows God better than anyone when he writes Psalm 23. He knows His nature, His holiness, His glory, His power and His love and strength. That means David’s confidence is not rooted in circumstances. It is rooted in God’s nature and character.
Think about that for a moment. David does not say:
My sword is my shepherd.
My savings account is my shepherd.
My government is my shepherd.
My family is my shepherd.
He says: “The LORD is my Shepherd.”
The quality of a sheep’s life depends entirely upon the character of its shepherd. A weak shepherd produces fearful sheep. A careless shepherd produces wandering sheep. But an all-powerful, covenant-keeping Shepherd is different.
Think about your life as if you were out sailing on the ocean. Storms come unexpectedly. Winds change direction. Waves rise suddenly. But the sailor’s confidence is not found in the weather. It is found in the strength of the anchor.
David had weathered many, many storms in his lifetime. But, he had learned over the years to stop fretting about the wind and waves and put his faith in his anchor.
As believers, our confidence is not in our circumstances but in the God who never changes. Anchors hold us steady. They keep us grounded when everything around us is in chaos. While the storms rage and the seas rise and fall, God never changes.
Look at these verses:
Malachi 3:6
“For I, the LORD, do not change; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed.
Hebrews 13:8
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
Revelation 1:8
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
Before you think about your problems today, think about your Shepherd. The size of your confidence should be determined by the size of your God.
