Day 18 – He Guides Me
God is the One who guides His people.

Day 18 – He Guides Me
Psalm 23:3 — “He guides me…”
Picture a shepherd leading his flock across the rugged hills of Judea. The terrain is uneven and unfamiliar. There are cliffs, hidden crevices, thickets and predators waiting in the shadows. Yet the sheep move confidently because they are following someone who knows the way.
They have to.
Sheep have no natural sense of direction. Left on their own, they don’t just wander a short distance and return home. They become lost. They can’t find fresh pasture or safe water without their shepherd.
I can’t help but see myself here. The Bible compares us to sheep because we have the same tendency to wander. And boy do we wander! We don’t merely make the occasional wrong turn—we drift from God’s will, trusting our own way—and the next thing you know, we’re lost.
Isaiah said it plainly: “All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way” (Isaiah 53:6). That is why David’s words are so comforting: “He guides me.”
The Hebrew word nachah means to lead, guide, or conduct along a journey. It describes someone who knows the destination and faithfully brings another safely there. What a beautiful picture of our Shepherd! He doesn’t simply point us in the right direction and hope we make it. He personally leads us.
God is the One who guides His people. He led Israel through the wilderness with a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. Jesus called Himself the Good Shepherd whose sheep know His voice and follow Him. Today, God continues to lead His children through His church, prayer, His Word and the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit.
The Christian life has never been about finding our own way. It has always been about following the Shepherd.
Romans 8:14
“For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”
Perhaps you’ve been asking God to show you the entire road ahead. More often than not, He simply says, “Follow Me.” The safety of the sheep has never depended on their ability to find the path, but on their willingness to stay close to the Shepherd. Today, don’t trust your own sense of direction. Listen for His voice, stay near His side, and let Him guide you one faithful step at a time.
