Believe It Or Not

I attended a Pastor's conference where one of the speakers talked about how we undermine the authority of the Bible. As I read through his list, I came across this gem: "We undermine the Bible’s authority when we legitimize things that the Bible condemns."

He really nailed this one. Most people who reject the authority of the Bible don't realize that they are rejecting it at all. They don't stand up and say, "I don't believe that". Instead, they sit down at home and say "That doesn't apply to me." Then they begin to twist the text around to fit what they want it to say.

Very subtle, isn't it? It's not really a rejection of God, it's more of a denial that He really meant what He said.

God's Word is not something that we can just pick and choose from. If God said it, then it is true and final. We have not been given the privilege of choosing what we want to be true. Truth is true whether we like it or not.

When I first became a Christian, I used to pick out the verses that I liked and ignore the ones I didn't. That’s how false teaching starts. Once you begin to see God's Word for what it is - the actual Words of a Living God - you can't ignore it anymore. You accept it all and you pray for understanding of the difficult parts.

It’s amazing how your eyes will be opened when you see God's Word as true and meaningful in every aspect.

1 Thessalonians 2:13

"For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the Word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe."
