8 Things To Be Thankful For - The Bible Is Real

Did you know that when you read the Bible it’s not like reading any other book? I remember reading a story about a minister who bragged about how her church doesn’t meet in a church building and they aren’t limited to just using one book. Sometimes, she said, they read from a novel or a magazine article.

I think I see a problem there, do you? The problem is this: The Bible isn’t just ink and paper. The Bible contains the Word of God. Notice that I didn’t say it contains the words of God. That is something different.

The words of God are True and authoritative but The Word of God is Scripture. There’s something special about Scripture. It has power and intention and it does something.

Let me say that again: It does something.

Look at these verses:

Isaiah 55:11

“…My Word … goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.”

1 Thessalonians 2:13

“For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the Word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the Word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe.”

Do you see the problem now? God’s Word is power to His people. It is given to us by God with the expressed mission to build up, encourage, strengthen, chastise, correct, reprove, teach, purify and draw us closer to Him.

Why in the world would any spiritual “leader” ever consider using a cheap substitute for that? The Word of God is right there! Use it! Why give the people a placebo that doesn’t do a single thing for them except to make them feel good?

The Bible is real and it has the power to make us alive again, to give us strength and power, to make us new creatures and to change hearts of stone into hearts of flesh.

Be thankful that God has placed such a powerful tool into your hands. He has given you everything you need to live a life full of joy and hope. Why trade that for a cheap imitation?
