When You Don’t Understand But Still Obey
That’s where obedience meets faith. Faith doesn’t need to understand everything. It trusts God.

When God Is Silent
When You Don’t Understand But Still Obey
Proverbs 16:9
“The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.”
There are moments when you want clarity before you move. You want to understand what God is doing. Where is He leading? How is it all going to come together?
But sometimes, that clarity doesn’t come. Not yet, at least.
So, you’re left with a choice: Wait until everything makes sense …
or move forward with what you do know.
That’s where faith becomes real. Not in full understanding—but in quiet obedience.
In Genesis 22, Abraham faced that exact situation. He was told to go.
He was told to offer the very thing that mattered the most to him.
He moved. He chose to obey. Not because he had every answer but because he trusted the One who gave the command. That’s what obedience looks like in the silence.
Faith is not reckless or blind. Faith is grounded in trust—even when understanding hasn’t caught up yet.
Oswald Chambers once said,
“Faith never knows where it is being led, but it loves and knows the One who is leading.”
That’s where obedience meets faith. Faith doesn’t need to understand everything. It trusts God enough to take the next step. Even in silence because God doesn’t always give understanding before obedience.
He’s not withholding something from you—He’s forming something in you. Because if you only move when you understand, then your understanding—not God—is what you’re ultimately following.
When you obey even in silence you’re saying something deeper:
“I trust You, even here.”
And that kind of trust doesn’t just move you forward—it draws you closer to Him.
God allows silence so your obedience is shaped by trust—not by your own will or desire.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.
