When God Showed Up For Moses on Mount Sinai (Part 2)
Exodus 19–20; 33–34
Scripture tells us that the face of Moses shone—not because he sought God, but because he had been in His presence. Encountering God always changes us, so God does not reveal Himself all at once. He reveals Himself as we are able to follow Him upward. Step by step. Invitation by invitation.
We want clarity without awe. God offers revelation that produces reverence. When God shows up on the mountain, He reveals that He is holy, personal, merciful and intentional—and that drawing near to Him will, indeed, change us.
The same God who spoke through thunder is the God who still calls His people closer. But He does not invite us casually. He invites us carefully, shaping us as we ascend.
Sinai reminds us that encountering God is never neutral. You do not simply encounter Him—you are marked by Him.
When God shows up, He does not come to entertain, explain Himself away or fit neatly into our expectations. He comes to show us who He is. The God who thundered on Sinai is the God who whispered to a child in the night, walked with faithful men through fire, reigned in exile, and saw a searching heart under a fig tree. These moments are not disconnected stories; they are a single testimony. God reveals Himself in different ways, in different places, and in different seasons—but He is always the same. And every revelation carries an invitation: not merely to observe Him, but to draw nearer, listen more closely, trust more deeply, and live differently because He has made Himself known.
May the God who reveals His holiness draw you closer without fear. May the God who speaks teach you to listen. May the God who reigns steady you in uncertain places. May the God who walks with you in suffering remind you that you are never alone.
And may the God who knows you fully shape your life as you respond to His presence. Amen.
Tomorrow: this series will close with a look at the greatest of all the encounters with God.
